Floss: Six stranded divisible threads, size 25, may be used as a single or multiple strand depending on the type of needlecraft. This type of thread is 100% mercerized cotton, most are washable and fade resistant. Floss is also available in rayon, silk, linen, wool, satin and metallic.
Pearl Cotton: Mercerized non-divisible thread, 100% cotton, colorfast and fade resistant. The higher the number on the pearl cotton, the finer and thinner the thread will be. To distinguish from the most commonly used pearl cottons Size 8 & 12, size eight is equivalent to three strands of cotton floss while size 12 is equivalent to two strands. Size 5 is equivalent to the six stranded floss, all six strands.
